The Tulipán folklore group from Čataj continues the rich traditions of our village and the legacy of generations who for decades preserved folk songs, dances, customs and practices. After more than twenty years of inactivity, folk life in the village has come to life again.
The idea to revive folklore in Čataj came from the Cultural and Social Committee of the Čataj Municipal Council and from former members of the folklore group. Together we began to look for a way to bring a traditional atmosphere back to the village and to connect people through cultural heritage.
The first step was a fašiangy (carnival) procession, which we prepared in 2018. That moment became the impulse for reviving the folklore group. Gradually, regular rehearsals began and in 2019 we performed again with our own programme.
Since then the Tulipán folklore group has been active in the cultural life of the village. We organise traditional events, perform at various cultural occasions and strive to preserve and pass on local traditions to the next generations.
Although the pandemic interrupted our activities for a time, our desire to continue was stronger. After returning to in-person meetings we resumed rehearsals and performances and continue with joy to maintain the folklore traditions that are part of our village’s identity.
